Don’t be jealous of our garden gremlin

In the midst of taking 19 credits and working 28 hours a week naturally I am also moving out of my apartment.  I go big, all the time.  I have a week and a half and let’s not talk about how I haven’t really started packing.  I’m planning on dedicating some serious time to packing this weekend, don’t worry.

Anyway, it’s been a big week for my roommate and me.  I met her dog, Bear, who is a Newfoundland mix.  This means he has really cool webbed paws.  He’s pretty darn cute.

My roommate and I also got a tour of our future garden tonight.  Yes, I’m serious.  I have no choice but to take up gardening in the near future, but it will be fun (I hope)!  Actually the yard doesn’t seem like too much work.  There’s an irrigation system that will do a lot of the watering for us.

Garden irrigation

Cactus in the front yard

Pumpkins, my favorite part

Mmm honeysuckle.

What might turn out to be a bigger challenge than caring for the plants will be caring for the balancing rocks.  Our landlord has these rocks that he likes to balance, as some sort of zen spiritual thing.  Bear was in the front yard and thought one of the rocks was a ball and knocked over one of the balanced rock towers.  We all failed at trying to reconstruct it.

Balanced rocks

Trying to reconstruct the rocks. Fail.

Bear was relocated to the porch.

The backyard is pretty great too.  There’s a lot of young fruit trees and we have a sweet set-up with a grill and patio furniture.

Vines that will hopefully be climbing next summer.

Peach tree.

My absolute favorite part of the garden is probably the garden gremlin our landlord is leaving for us. “I found it in the garage and thought you girls might like it.”  Exact quote.

Don’t be jealous of our garden gremlin.

Moving will be a huge pain, however I am really looking forward to the end results.  Especially the garden gremlin.  And here’s a sneak peek of my future room!

  1. absolutely love the new place, congratulations! it looks so amazing–what a score on the garden: cacti, cairns, and gremlins, oh my! i can’t wait to come visit you soon 🙂

  2. A peach tree! How cool! At least you have a few months to learn about gardening before you’ll have to do anything with it – but it looks like it’ll be a great place to learn! Good luck with moving!

  3. There’s no place like gnome….

It looks fantastic Paula. You come from a long line of gardeners and farmers so I’m sure you will like playing in the dirt. Can’t wait to see it!
