Things I would love to steal from my mom

Being back in Missouri for a few days has reminded me of several things.  First, my Missouri friends are amazing and it has been great to spend time with them.  Second, humidity is worse than I remembered.  Colorado has made me soft, and I can’t handle the humidity these days.  Finally, my mom has awesome taste in furniture.  I spent the entire morning walking around my house, identifying several pieces I would love to steal.  My apartment in Denver is really too small to fit anything else major, but I still like to dream about the day that I will have a furniture collection that I hope is at least halfway as good as my mom’s.

The halltree

Black painted chair

Don’t worry, my mom painted this herself and made the cushion.

Alligator trunk

I’m positive this isn’t actually alligator, but I always called it the alligator trunk when I was a kid.  So cool.

Off-white mirror

In the front entry my mom has a collection of mirrors hanging.  This one is my favorite.

Mario Chalmers Junior

Named after my favorite KU basketball player.  How can you resist this face?

Ice box

Antique ice box.  My mom stores casserole dishes inside.

Door/sewing machine dining room table

Most kids got in trouble for putting their elbows on the table.  My brothers and I got in trouble for playing with the antique sewing machine pedal under our dining room table.  That’s because our dining room table is a door placed on top of the parts of an antique sewing machine.  Seriously.

Stained glass etching

Antique needlepoint

Painted wall hutch

I love the painted design.

Curio cabinet

This beautiful dark wood curio cabinet?  It’s just hanging out in the back of the family room.  Because my mom has so much other awesome furniture that this is just a secondary piece.  I really don’t know where all this stuff came from.  It’s impressive.

Antique piano book covers

Remember the “Moonlight on the Colorado” piano book cover hanging in my bathroom in Denver?  This is the source of the inspiration!  My favorite is “Yes We Have No Bananas”.

Iron chairs

Stuff I actually get to steal

This is an exciting section for me.  I actually do get to take my bedroom furniture when I am someday living somewhere longer than a year.  Since right now I am on a yearly apartment rotation, I don’t think I am at a point in my life where I can take care of these pieces.  But someday these ARE mine!  Thanks Mom.

My mom refinished and stained this cedar trunk for me.  That’s love right there!

Typical Colorado girl that can't make up her mind. Trail running, hiking, climbing, camping, CrossFit, ultimate frisbee, and skiing? E, all of the above.

  1. My mom has a very similar antique ice box! It’s where she hides the booze. 🙂
